Together Under A Snowy Skye

by Lisa Hobman

4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Blurb:

After the heartbreak of a secret unrequited love, Millie Treadaway has finally found someone to spend her life with.

Harry Rose is handsome, successful and treats her like a princess. That is until Millie presents her fiancé with a surprise birthday gift, and their future is suddenly doomed.

Eight months later Millie returns to Glentorrin on the Isle of Skye for her best friend Jules’ Christmas wedding. Heartbroken, single and heavily pregnant.

Staying in Lifeboat Cottage with Jules’ brother, kindhearted Dexter, she’s given up on love and resigned herself to be the best single Mum ever.

But a shock phone call from Harry leaves her reeling and doubting herself and her decisions.

Do second chances work? Or is Dexter, right? That she deserves much more?

Can the festive spirit in Glentorrin, and a little stray Jack Russell terrier, heal her heart?

Or is she fated to remain a member of the lonely-hearts club forever?

Lisa Hobman wrote an unsuspected gem of a book in Together Under A Snowy Skye.
Millie, our main character, finds out she is pregnant and is excited to share the amazing news with her long-term boyfriend, Harry. One thing that would be useful is a content warning regarding pregnancy issues and discussions of termination, especially due to the heroine's boyfriend being very manipulative and toxic about her pregnancy. Obviously, the author wanted to convey a negative reaction from her boyfriend but I feel this may be slightly triggering for anyone who's been in a similar situation.
Once Millie removes herself from her toxic relationship we jump forward six months to her travelling to Scotland for her best friend's wedding. Although it is difficult and daunting, she is excited to become a mother, regardless of her relationship with Harry.

From then on, Millie seems to become more confident and comfortable in her routine.
By the end of the book, an obvious romantic connection is made between long-time friends Millie and Dexter although neither will admit to this.
Harry is back on the scene, completely ignoring his unborn child and is desperate to get Millie and only her back. He is so persistent he turns up at Jules (Millie's best friend) and Reid's wedding - uninvited of course smelling of alcohol and being quite aggressive actually.
Dexter tried to tell Millie that she and her baby deserve so much more but, she find herself inclined to return with her baby to the Cotswolds with Harry, regardless of him calling their daughter 'it' multiple times and wanting to ship her off to boarding schools and nannies as soon as she's old enough. I think this is the time Millie finally realises that Harry does not care about their daughter at all and confesses her love for Dexter to Jules. Once reunited Dexter takes on the fantastic role of the baby's father and they live happily ever after.
I really enjoyed this book, The stunning imagery and perfectly written self-discovery of Millie made a perfect festive read.
Thanks so much NetGalley and Boldwood Books!

The Book of Azrael by Amber Nicole review

The Book of Azrael (Gods and Monsters #1) by Amber Nicole ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. At this point in time I have no words for this book. Ok that was a lie. I have a lot to say.  I had a general idea of what this book entailed but I prefer to go in blind and appreciate the unexpected, and this paid off. I absolutely loved it. Initially, Dianna is this evil monster capable of awful things and her one weakness is her sister, Gabby. I thought Kaden would be this love interest that would shift completely due to his love and affection for Dianna but boy was I wrong. Once the plot got underway and I grasped the complex world of gods and monsters, I was hooked. Liam - or Samkiel - was an instant favourite for me. A tortured soul, isolated and grieving is shoved into a stressful situation that is constantly developing and worsening. The two main characters form an initially volatile alliance which burns super slowly into a delicious and spicy romance that A...

Just Date and See! by Portia MacIntosh Blurb Billie is looking forward to a quiet, man-free Christmas.
