Terms and Conditions (Dreamland billionaire's #2) Book Review

Terms and Conditions (Dreamland billionaire's #2) Book Review

After finishing The Fine Print, there was no doubt in my mind that I would dive straight into Terms and Conditions.

The characters of Book 2 were introduced throughout The Fine Print but any mention of their relationship was limited to professional and Declan looking at Iris' ass.

Tropes:
  • Marriage of convenience
  • Friends(ish) to lovers
  • Fake engagement leading to marriage
  • Workplace romance
  • Grumpy/sunshine
Declan Kane, the eldest Kane brother had some more extreme clauses to his inheritance. He had to marry and have a child before accessing his shares of the company and becoming CEO.

Iris, his assistant, or person who makes sure his entire work and personal life goes smoothly, is aware of these clauses and spent time finding Declan a wife. This is mentioned in book 1 where she struggled to find someone he liked.

The book opens with the announcement and engagement party for Declan and his original bride-to-be, who he doesn't even know her name. Becky, Bethany or Beatrice? He doesn't care. After meeting her for the first time, mere minutes before the announcements, Declan reenters to room and states the bride is not-to-be and has been 'fired'. Iris panics and tells the wedding planner that she is the bride and both parties are shocked by the revelation and Declan's brother Callahan, Iris's good friend, is also shocked by this announcement.

What follows is an awkward and tense conversation and the wedding plans and even more awkward discussions with Seth Kane, Declan's father. We learnt in the first book that the brothers father was an abusive alcoholic who beat and belittled his children following the death of his wife. As Declan is the oldest, these memories are especially traumatic for him and his relationship is rocky and almost manipulative with his father.

Following the engagement announcements, contracts are signed and families are told of the wedding plans. I absolutely loved Iris's family - her mother and her Nana. They were the epitome of strong women raising an even stronger daughter following the divorce of her parents, where her father is abusive to both of them. In the book, their relationship is fantastic and it is heart-wrenching to witness Iris lying about the nature of her wedding to her very excited family members.

As the plot builds, so does their personal relationship. Fake dates, public displays of affection and living together result in spicy moments where Declan caves first. He wants to alter the rules slightly as his attraction toward Iris grows unexpectedly. From the start, he was explicit in saying that their whole marriage was a game and the relationship was 100% fake! Well, safe to say this did not long and the grumpy man who didn't want any real relationship finds that not only is his sexual attraction towards Iris growing, but he is slowly falling in love with her. This personal journey is extremely difficult for him and Iris, although she feels flutters of romantic attraction, denies it for a long time.

Towards the end, the penultimate conflict between the two results in Declan not achieving his desired career results and Iris resigning from her job, heartbroken by the previous events. I don't want to spoil the end too much but there is plenty of heart-wrenching conversations and cute grovelling to save their marriage.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, I think just as much as Rowan and Zahra's story (and we get snippets of them throughout book 2 as well!). It was also fantastic seeing more of Cal and what his inheritance clauses might be. Personally, I think his story will include a second chance romance with a childhood sweetheart, but that is just me speculating.

The Book of Azrael by Amber Nicole review

The Book of Azrael (Gods and Monsters #1) by Amber Nicole ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. At this point in time I have no words for this book. Ok that was a lie. I have a lot to say.  I had a general idea of what this book entailed but I prefer to go in blind and appreciate the unexpected, and this paid off. I absolutely loved it. Initially, Dianna is this evil monster capable of awful things and her one weakness is her sister, Gabby. I thought Kaden would be this love interest that would shift completely due to his love and affection for Dianna but boy was I wrong. Once the plot got underway and I grasped the complex world of gods and monsters, I was hooked. Liam - or Samkiel - was an instant favourite for me. A tortured soul, isolated and grieving is shoved into a stressful situation that is constantly developing and worsening. The two main characters form an initially volatile alliance which burns super slowly into a delicious and spicy romance that A...
